is a classical vocalist and performance artist whose events fuse:
- Operatic, gospel, rock and cabaret improvisation

Descended but never derived from the methods and media of:
- Black avantgarde
- Poststructural theoretical
- Punk rock
- Revolutionary decolonizing

movements, M. Lamar’s performances are anchored by a stunning counter tenor that both shimmers and thunders.
Though intellectually rigorous and physically visceral, M. Lamar’s demeanor and dialogue with audiences make his events always accessible… indeed inviting… even solicitous… and nearly undeniable.
Violent and vociferous but never histrionic, M. Lamar is neither torchsinger nor vamp, but rather a antispectacle hurling illuminating shadows across the sexes, sales, slaveries and subjectivities endemic to American™ Empire.

CRITICAL THEORY“In the Belly of the Ship”BY BRANDON PETER MASTERMAN“M. Lamar’s musical performances posses an otherworldly quality, a dark opulence that is simultaneously stunning in its beauty as well as tortured in its despair. Lamar is a countertenor, pianist, and composer whose work intervenes directly with discourses of race in America.”
